1. The Mario Project is a retelling of the story of Mario and Luigi. The games don't seem to have any continuity, so I've taken it upon myself to string the games together with a coherant storyline. I've been doing this for the past 2 years...
2. I guess, I kinda answered that already. The story focuses on Mario and Luigi (in the long run), and chronicles their journey to and through the Mushroom Kingdom.
3. It was a project that I started that I never intended to finish. It was simply to refine my storytelling techniques and work on character redesigns. The tough part was remaining TRUE to everything the games are while making it seem semi-realistic, and to string together a bunch of games that don't have any connecting points to them.
4. To finish it! Seriously. I can't sell it, because that's copyright infringement... and I can NEVER make any money off it, because I don't own the characters I'm using. Ultimately, it's a personal goal to finish it.
I see. I was actually thinking about a project exactly like this. mine would be a sort of documentary style, with slide show type pictures and occasional interviews. Kind of like those "E hollywood stories" or whatever.
I had some really great ideas for it too. I never started it, for various reasons. Mostly because I have other projects going on. Maybe I will one day.
Since I'm doing everything in chronological order, Fawful wouldn't appear until I get to the Mario and Luigi Superstar story arc... Then, he'll most definitely appear.
The initial intent was to cover (in order) Donkey Kong/Wrecking Crew, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, and Super Mario RPG.
That is where the initial run ends. I want to keep going after that, but I'm gonna be hard pressed to just make it THIS far. A lot of ideas from Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion have been worked in.
Games that WON'T be in the story: Donkey Kong Jr, and Yoshi's Island...
